Why study in the UK?

A UK degree is short and focused. You study your subject from the first day, which saves a year or more of fees and living costs compared with many other countries.

The one-year master's is the main draw for Indian graduates: a recognised qualification and a return to work in twelve months.

You can choose between research-intensive universities, modern career-focused universities and specialist schools for art, law, hospitality and music.

Popular subjects
  • Business & Management
  • Finance & Accounting
  • Law
  • Computer Science
  • Data Science & AI

  • Funds held for at least 28 days before you apply

The UK Student visa

Five steps from your offer to your visa. Decisions usually come within a few weeks of your biometrics.

1

Accept your offer

Meet the conditions and pay the deposit the university asks for.

2

Receive your CAS

The university issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies.

3

Prepare your funds

Hold the required money for 28 days in a row and get the bank letter.

4

Apply online

Complete the form, and pay the visa fee and health surcharge.

5

Give biometrics

Attend the visa centre. Your visa is issued as an eVisa.

While you study

Degree-level students can work up to 20 hours a week in term time and full-time in official holidays. You cannot be self-employed or work as a professional sportsperson. Only research postgraduates can bring dependants.

After you graduate

The Graduate route lets you stay and work, or look for work, without a sponsor. You can then move to a Skilled Worker visa if an employer sponsors you.

What is changing

The Graduate route falls from two years to 18 months for bachelor's and master's graduates who apply on or after 1 January 2027. PhD graduates keep three years. The funds you must show also rose in November 2025. Plan your course dates with this in mind.

Planning a medical career in the UK?

Indian doctors usually reach UK practice through the GMC registration exams and specialty training. Our MBBS pages explain the UK and Ireland route step by step.

Common questions

Short answers to what students and parents ask us most.

Is a one-year UK master's recognised in India?

Yes, by employers and universities worldwide. If you plan a government job or a PhD in India, check the current equivalence rules for one-year master's degrees; we will guide you.

Can I study in the UK without IELTS?

Some universities accept strong Class 12 English marks, a degree taught in English, or their own test. It depends on the university and your board. We tell you which options apply.

How much money do I need to show?

The unpaid tuition for your first year plus living costs for up to nine months: £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 a month elsewhere at the time of writing. The money must be held for 28 days.

How long can I stay after my degree?

Two years on the Graduate route if you apply before 1 January 2027, and 18 months if you apply on or after that date. PhD graduates get three years.

September or January intake?

September has more courses and scholarships. January suits students who finish their degree late or need more time for documents. Not every course runs in January.
