Why study in the UAE?

The UAE lets you earn a British, Australian, American or Indian university degree without going far from home. Chennai to Dubai is about four hours.

Many campuses are branch campuses. You study the same curriculum and receive the same degree as students at the home university, often with the option to transfer there for a semester or a year.

It suits students and parents who want an international qualification, a familiar culture and food, and strong links to employers across the Gulf.

QS numbers are from the QS World University Rankings 2027 and refer to the parent university. Check that your programme is accredited by the UAE authority that covers your campus (the Commission for Academic Accreditation or KHDA in Dubai) and, if you plan to return to India, how the degree is recognised there. We check both with you.

Fees, living costs and visa rules are a guide only and were last checked in October 2026. They change often and differ by university and course. We confirm the current figures for your shortlist before you apply.

The UAE student visa

Your university sponsors the visa and applies for you, so the process is simpler than in most countries.

1

Accept your offer

Pay the deposit and send the documents the university lists.

2

University applies

The university applies for your entry permit as your sponsor.

3

Travel to the UAE

Enter on the entry permit before it expires.

4

Medical and biometrics

Take the medical fitness test and give biometrics for your Emirates ID.

5

Residence visa

Your student residence visa is issued, usually for one year, and renewed each year.

While you study

Students aged 18 and over can take part-time jobs and internships with a permit and a no-objection letter from their university. The rules differ between the mainland and the free zones, so ask your university before you accept any work.

After you graduate

To stay, you need a work visa sponsored by an employer, which is common in the UAE. Outstanding graduates with a high grade average may apply for a long-term Golden Visa. Many graduates also use the degree to move on to a master's in the UK, Australia or Canada.

Common questions

Short answers to what students and parents ask us most.

Is a degree from a Dubai branch campus the same as the home campus?

In most cases the degree is awarded by the home university and the certificate is the same. Ask for this in writing, and check the campus accreditation. We help you confirm both.

Can I work part-time as a student?

Yes, with a permit and a no-objection letter from your university. Internships are common, and many degrees include one.

Can I transfer to the UK or Australia later?

Many branch campuses let you move to the home campus for a semester, a year or the rest of the degree, if you meet the academic and visa requirements of that country.

Which emirate should I choose?

Dubai has the most campuses and jobs. Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Ajman offer lower fees and rent. Your course and budget should decide.

How long does the visa take?

Usually two to four weeks after the university has your complete documents and fees. Apply at least two months before the intake.
